Peter S. Strickland Art

I’ve been drawing and painting most of my life, beginning in high school, where I was fortunate to have a wonderful art teacher who encouraged me and showed me a path. He connected me with some great professors in the Kent State art program, where I studied for two years.

I enjoy experimenting with different paint mediums on many different materials, including wood, plastic, canvas, and a variety of papers. I use various combinations of watercolor paints, acrylics, oils, and pastels for unique effects. I always love seeing how they react to one another.

Though my work can be classified as abstract expressionism, my love of the human face expressed in different mediums on different palettes can defy category. There is a surprising 3-D aspect to some of my artwork, which is apparent when the paintings are viewed through 3-D glasses. The 3-D effect was a happy accident, a welcome result of years of effort to bring depth to my work with balance, color, and form.
